Imposter!

So as I started doing “research” to begin this project again, we came across this website. It was disappointing to say the least. Especially since this person started his blog almost two years after mine went up. I suppose I deserve it because I did fail to write in my blog for several years. However, his blog is really similar and he apparently has more time to write in it. However, I love Steven Seagal and the original is always best (like Battlestar Galactica, right? Right??) so fuck it. Hard to Kill is up next. When Rinposhe met Kelly LeBrock and groped her ass like no one has ever groped an ass before, I hope.

Above the Law: Or Seagal’s Screed in Voice-Over

As a beginning post, Above the Law is not such a great subject. The problem with Above the Law is that it’s pretty good. Which makes sense; this was the film that made Seagal a bankable star ( he was hired on after a successful screen test). Now, certainly, Above the Law is not Citizen Kane. It has a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes (down from 62%), so we’re not talking about great cinema. But for an action movie, a Seagal action movie – there’s very little to complain about. In fact, by almost all accounts (Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB) it’s Rinposhe’s best movie e-v-e-r. Continue reading

So here’s the deal. I love Steven Seagal. I love his movies, I even admire the man himself. In a way my love is ironic – but in another way, it is wholly real. It’s like the famous Simpson’s line: Q. “Are you being ironic?” A. “I don’t even know anymore.”

My aim here is to begin at the bottom of Steven Seagal’s IMDB page and work my way up, watching every one of Seagal’s films and dissecting the joy (and pain) in each. Continue reading
